Info on Statistics
All stories on this web site are contributed by the parents of the children or sometimes by the child itself. While providing all relevant information for the stories, the parents have the option to enter all treatments they have tried.
For each treatment, they are asked the name, positive and side effects as well as the effectiveness of that treatment. For effectiveness, they only have 4 options: positive, neutral, negative or unknown.
The stastical information that is available on these pages is directly calculated from the answers to the effectiveness of a treatment. There are 2 types of statistics generated. The first is a general effectiveness of a given treatment. Independent of the diagnosis, all children who have reported that specific treatment are taken as the complete group. For each of the 4 possible answers, a percentage is calculated that indicates the percentage of children that reported that specific answer. This information is provided on the treatment page.
The second type of statistical information is calculated per diagnosis. Some treatments are more effective for a specific diagnosis. This information is provided on the page that deals with that specific diagnosis, accessable from the list of diagnoses.
With low numbers, percentages do not mean a lot, so included on all these pages is the number of children that make up the complete group.
Please note that these statistics are not intended to be "statistically correct", but I believe that the numbers might be helpful for some readers.
